If you are thinking of starting a franchise, check-out http://www.franchiseexpo.com. Their franchise directory is full of information to help you make your decision.

After visiting the above site and READING the educational materials please go to:

http://www.bizop.ca/blog2/aboutus.html

...and read everything the good Barrister has written on the topic.

Then please go to you tube and enter Penn & Teller and click search. In particular pay attention to the one on mulit-level marketing, but also watch many others. Then once you have your mind right, start reading the FDD for franchise offering.

It's a good idea to speak with a franchise broker as well. Their services are free and they can help you narrow down your search for a new franchise. Here is an example of a potential franchise broker who could help you in buying process-

Remember if you approach a franchisor and that franchisor uses brokers you should be able to reduce your franchise fee by the price of the commision they would pay to a broker. You have bargaining power before you sign the FA not after!!!!

Moreover always understand who a broker is paid by, insist on disclosure of precisely what they are paid so you fully understand their motivations. If the broker is not willing to put it in writing then move on, you are not losing anything.

Thanks for the reliable links guys :D
Franchising is not just an easy talk. Engaging in this type of business, one must have one of the attitude that a businesses owner have. "To have the will to follow standard and meeting proper guidelines". A attitude that can make franchising even better.

one must have one of the attitude that a businesses owner have.

Please remember though, in general, as a franchisee you don't own a business. What you own are limited right to use another person's business. There is a huge difference. I think sharecropping is a more appropriate description than business ownership.

Hello FuwaFuwaUsagi,
I think I shouldn't really use the term business owner in that phrase. What I really meant to say was: as franchisor, you must have an attitude that has "the will to follow standard and meeting proper guidelines".

Thanks for the thought!
