Acquisition monster GameStop (they have merged with Software Etc., Babbages, Gamesworld, Funcoland, EB Games) looks like it is planning to begin franchising next year. Our forum mavens have heard the confirmed rumors and preparations at GameStop’s annual gobal manager’s conference in Vegas this weekend. From the forum:

The industry players are apparently a little dissapointed because it requires dealing with “onesie / twosies” versus one stop shopping for consolidated groups, but apparently GameStop’s not doing what a lot of the more sophisticated franchisors like Pizza Hut do and only sell franshises to massive, deep pocket franchise groups that can afford to buy up a whole cities worth of stores (although this would be good I suppose for the average franchisee wanting to get in).
Gamestop has the strongest reputation in the gaming business. If they can keep the customer experience and value add above the usually cheaper online retailers, they can avoid the same demise as Blockbuster.

Game Stop has a good atmosphere and people like to hang out there and talk. The prices are usually as low as you can find anywhere and they do have good sales on older games.
how we can get franchise for game stop
I would REALLY REALLY like to get my hands on any info you get on franshiseing a Game Stop a coulpe of good friends an I are serious about this venture so if you could help us out our Newborns an us would be evergreatful.

Gamestop does not sell franchises. You may want to consider a Disc Replay franchise. You can get more info at discreplay.com
Disc Replay video game franchises I think require an initial investment of about $125,000. They sell used video games and used dvds.

I think we should start a petition, maybe gamestop will realize how may people are willing to start a franchise and how much this will positivly effect their company and how it will provide jobs for others stimulating the economy even if just alittle. I would start a petition it only I knew how to organize one on the internet. If anyone is interested in starting one please let me know.
Seriously, Game Stop is not going to franchise. There model is already successful and the most successful in the industry. Why would they put that on the line and hand it over to franchisees that can instantly ruin the brand. If you guys want a franchise with a better model and more streams of revenue google “game on franchise” or “play n trade franchise”.
Disc Replay is franchising their concept as well. They have a number of locations in centers with Gamestop and seem to be doing quite well.
Disc Replay stores also sell used movies, and they seem to offer big protected areas and low fees.
my family realy wants to start a game stop and we dont know if wthey will sell franchise. can some one help?

If anyone know’s how to start a petition on the internet let us know. this is a great start because i see that i am not the only one if there was a petition game stop would have to respond to it. I am sure they would have no problem listening to what we have to say on the subject.
